Item Description

Discussion

Action By

1. Welcome & Intro

  • Larisa gave a quick welcome and everyone around the table briefly introduced themselves

2. Neighbourhood selection – University of Ottawa study

  • Larisa presented studies and briefly described how they contributed towards Bayshore being chosen as one of the 4 communities to start the CDF process.
  • A concern was expressed about how the name ‘Bayshore’ is being used loosely and is perhaps being confused with other communities in the area, especially with respect to the United Neighbours study that was published (SR)
  • For this project Bayshore is defined as Bayshore-proper (Woodridge Cres and Bayshore Dr) (LW)
  • Also, studies that the City and Universities conducted to bring Bayshore into the CDF process were specific to Bayshore proper (LW & AC)

Larisa, Alex, and Stephen will meet with United Neighbours staff

3. CDF overview and timeline

Larisa provided an overview and the following tentative timeline:
Jan-March: Local Steering Committee meetings to review the results of past needs assessments and plan upcoming assessment.
April-May: Implement Needs Assessment
Summer: Create Action Plan and present to PQCHC Resource Committee for Support
Ongoing: Implementation/Evaluation of Process

4. Local Steering Committee TORs

  • Larisa read through and explained the TORs for the purpose of getting feedback
  • The group had no comments on the document, but requested that it be a living document (subject to change as needed)

5. Selection of Chair

  • Selection will be deferred to next meeting
  • Whomever the chair will be, s/he will work closely with Larisa

6. Next Steps

  • Who will be considered part of the committee?
    • Ideally, would like to increase community members presence (LW)
    • Would be nice to have flyers on hand to encourage people to join (SW)
  • Reporting of values of community members - such as respect for parents, teachers, and elders – seem to be missing from the neighbourhood study (SH)
    • Could be something to include into the survey (AC)
  • Next meeting we could map out who the players are in the Bayshore area (SW)
  • Given the size of Bayshore (2465 suites), size will be a challenge for the CDF process (SR)
  • Large number of people who are working within families and people’s busy schedules may also be a challenge (SR)
  • We can always bring ‘experts’ in to meetings if we have any questions on specific topics

Ahmad will bring BCA’s operating principles to the next meeting

Larisa/Ahmad to bring flyers so that community members can encourage participation to the next meeting

Natalie to draft neighbhourhood map that identifies all the players in Bayshore and bring draft to next meeting

7. Next Meeting

  • Tuesday February 10th, 6pm, Field House

Ahmad will book field house
