Progress as of July 21, 2009

The following aref recent activities/accomplishments:

1) The four CDF neighbourhoods have established Steering Committees.  So far, Bayshore, Carlington and West Centretown have successfully held or planned a CDF launch, which in most cases, are linked with the beginning of the survey dissemination.  The following are video highlights of each Neighbourhood launch:

The next planned launch is at Overbrook-McArthur on August 22, 2009 - Rain or Shine, from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm at the Overbrook Community Centre, 33 Quill Street.

2) Data entry training for residents is still ongoing through the Carleton Data Survey Centre.  Formal recognition is being planned for participants involved this process.

3) As a result of Adobe’s local partnership and involvement at the Resource Table, the Overbrook-Forbes Community Resource Centre applied to the Adobe Youth Voices program and were successful recipients of the grant. The program’s goal is to provide young people with breakthrough learning experiences by developing new tools for self expression, engaging actively with each other  and with their communities, and connecting to new audiences beyond the classroom. Adobe and CDF partners are thrilled that the Centre will be joining a global network of educators and organizations that empower young people to create media that is relevant to local, national, and global audiences. The program will be launched for youth residing in the Overbrook-Forbes area in the Fall 2009.

4)  The CDF is currently exploring partnership opportunities building on the Evaluation Framework (logic model/conceptual theory development) with Carleton University, School of Public Policy and Administration.

5) The CDF Celebration are being planned for the Fall 2009.  As identified in the CDF Evaluation Framework, celebrating success is a key pillar for maintaining momentum in collaborative efforts.

7) CDF partners will come together for a one-day training workshop (September 14th or 15th, 2009) to share ideas, learn from one another, and hear how the latest trends in community development can strengthen our work in neighbourhoods.  Community workers, volunteers, researchers, funders, city staff and residents actively involved in their neighbourhood community development initiatives are invited to attend and participate in this important workshop.  Please note space is limited and reserved for individuals involved in CDF neighbourhoods.
