MINUTES

  1.  

    • Welcome - Welcome and introductions were facilitated by Janet Bowes.

    2.  Agenda – The agenda was approved.

    3.   Minutes -The minutes of March 5 were approved with changes made to item #5.

    4.   Business arising:

    • Questionnaire update: The questionnaire is ready and will be available in 6 languages as well as online. University of Ottawa will be analyzing the data. Strategies for dissemination discussed –i.e. floor meetings, working with groups etc. Residents on Morriset may need specific strategies and meetings with private landlords should be initiated. A volunteer training session can be arranged with city staff re key messages. Helen will take the lead and connect with Rick and Steve. Discussed incentives. When participants hand in the questionnaire they can receive a ballot. Carlington will provide gift cards; the councilors office will make a contribution as well as the Caldwell Family Centre. Ideally the survey dissemination will be completed by June 30. Data entry Clara will develop a job description for volunteers required for data entry.

    • Community Development Framework launch

    Each community neighborhood decides on how this should be done
    Committee discussed various options- EMC article, flyer, pamphlet etc to increase awareness.  Launch at the BMTA (Bellevue Manor Tenants Association) at the May 26th meeting. A subcommittee will work on this (Helen, Rick and Jim).

    5.   New business

    • Leadership Ottawa- Immigrants Connectors. Funding application to United Way accepted to select one immigrant to help engage their community in the Leadership Ottawa Program. Send potential names to Helen who will pass on to Leadership Ottawa.

    6. Yuk Yuk Comedy Night: Ottawa West Kiwanis are doing a fund raising activity on Oct 23 2009-Lakeside Garden in support of Carlington Community Development Framework. Committee members agreed to promote and send names of potential sponsors to Anita and Helen

    7. CCHS submitted a funding proposal to City of Ottawa 2009 Non Renewable Funding requesting $10,000 for an awareness campaign.

    8. Crime Prevention Ottawa: Gang Prevention Project-neighborhood assessment across 6 priority neighborhoods in Ottawa-Mapping services

    9. Terms of Reference: Terms of Reference will be reviewed at the next meeting. Committee membership discussed of potential members from the wider community. It was suggested that that they be invited for action planning stage. Invitation to join the steering committee at this time will open to residents who live in Morriset area. Terms of reference to be distributed to committee members.
